Taking a Bite at Berting's Grill!

Wednesday, August 31, 2011

Scout Rallos cor Tomas Morato Avenue has never been better. There's a new spot called Berting's Grill. It's cozy and quite a comfy place to hangout from brunch to dinner. Of course it's high time we take a bite at some of their best offerings. A word of advice... grab your table napkins because this will surely make you mouth water!

Owner Chef Andrew Wijangco dubs this as the best Lechon Manok in the world! It's carefully prepared and marinated for 72 hours. He prepares this concoction himself! Their in house rotisserie makes this fresh off the grill in 45 minutes or less so they advise people to usually get hors d'oeuvres or appetizers to fill in the wait time or maybe you can order ahead before going to the restaurant. At first bite of the skin, you get that perfect crunch on some areas. It also reminds me of that saline-intense lemon grass flavor which most Visayan pork lechons have. Chicken skin has never achieved this kind of texture before and it was made not to be paired with any sauces. Although they do have available liver sauce for those who want it; this is extremely perfect with piping hot white rice. If you have tasted Pork Lechon from the region this will surely be a way to bring back those memories.

You can always start with Lumpia Dynamites which is a favorite among men who like to have them paired with local beers. It's Cheese, Ground beef-pork filling inserted inside shards of long Jalapeno peppers would give you that hint of spiciness you look for in starters like these. If you like cold beers you're in luck because this establishment only BEERBELOWZERO. It only costs 32 pesos and nobody serves it that cheap in this area. That's one great thing after another!

Now here's more!

A bed Crispy Chicken Skin hot off the cooker is one of the best things you can eat sinfully this side of town. Don't hold back on this one paired with the seasoned vinegar and hot rice. Some friends also swear to have taken this home and frozen them a bit, cooked the next day yet never even tasted differently. This can also be paired with cold house beers like what most patrons do on Acoustic nights, yes they provide entertainment for free on the second floor... you should pay them a visit every T-Th-S. Something establishments nearby can't even think of.

This is their Crispy Laing. A deconstructed version of it with the Laing containing bits of tuna and Lechon Kawali. It was good but remember to eat it with rice... don't even think of not doing that because the coconut milk made this too creamy. Wash it off with soda or some things off their drink offerings. Margarita's for the ladies; and again Beer for the men!

Crunchy and garlicky this favorite item on their menu boasts of sweet, salty and fresh kangkong rolled on wok heat and premium oyster sauce. It's one of their best sellers!

For the discriminating taste, they offer this crunchy breaded Cream Dory with a side serving of Salty capers swirled with butter and if I'm not mistaken lemon juice/rind. I liked this a lot... I'm a caper addict when it comes to pasta and this is nice pairing. Eat it while it's hot!

For the feast de resistance you can say NO to this Crunchy Kare Kare! Just look at that serving of Pork and the crunchy skin... this is something even doctors would order. On the side are steamed veggies (eggplant, Yard Long beans and bok choi) plus sweet - salty bagoong; it brings you back to that time when your Mom used to make it. This is aside from the house favorite Lechon Manok their BEST Seller! The peanut sauce cuts the saltiness out of the shrimp paste so you are in for a treat when you come and order this one!

The venue in the Scout Rallos Branch can accommodate a lot of people! You can also check out their celebrity wall when you come up the stairs. There are also articles you can read while waiting for your orders.

From the original owner of the defunct Thai In A Box (which was sold to other owners) comes this brand new Filipino hangout in Scout Rallos cor Tomas Morato. They also have a branch in Julia Vargas - Ortigas Home Depot if you are around the area. Free Wifi also available for those who need it. So make sure that next meeting, gathering of friends and special occasions would be spent in Bertings Grill. Why you ask?! Because it's definitely worth it!

Capisce?!

The Gem Collection: A Compilation of Wisdom Book Launch

Saturday, December 18, 2010

Joseph T. Bismark's book The Gem Collection: A Compilation of Wisdom was formally launched in the Philippines last December 11, 2o10. With Mr. Bismark coming in to the country, it was high time that he also met his adoring Filipino followers. Bestsellers by National Bookstore was the perfect venue. I got there right on time to see the great man and his work. I was in for more.

The mood was light and quite festive. We felt that too because this was more of a celebration. His work has been seen in a lot of countries and admired by thousands of people. I was definitely at awe on how he was received by the ones who attended the launch because as soon as he started to read a part of the book, everyone was glued to their seats and I see a majority of them nodding in agreement (saying "Yesssss... Yesssss..." on some occasion) as if I'm watching a religious exposition inside the mall. To tell you honestly I've never heard of him (no pun intended); but he was one of the few guys who had his book mentioned in a post from Jessica Zafra's blog (of which I'm a fan of being a book lover) stating that he had his work on best sellers list; and by well known fact, he's a Filipino! I was impressed to say the least from the lengthy and worthwhile introduction; but what I was more intrigued about was, what's all the fuzz with this guy?! What did he do to gain such admiration from them? Is he really that good of a writer?!

I was a skeptic to say the least and after all the merry making we did on the event I went in and bought a copy for myself. I never review books that I never read; and in this occasion I had to find out the answer to my own questions. I usually only read EBOOKS nowadays and I thought this was high time I go back to the basics and read the actual one. From the "Foreward" alone it was all making sense to me. He wrote and compiled his life's valuable lessons. I was doing a couple of pages and finished it in around 2 and a half hours (maybe less). I said to my self "Wait, did I just finish that whole book that fast?!" because apparently it was a feel good no nonsense read. I immediately got to relate on some of the anecdotes in between and realized something very valuable. I already knew the lessons in the book... I just wasn't using what I learned from life the same way that he did. His remarks about getting THE purpose in life was one of the simplest yet ingenious things I should have done a long time ago. I guess I was looking around too much that I forgot to look how damaged I was to begin with, and that I can still do something about it.

The things related to management was perfect for people like me who are in the same industry. You'll learn how to handle people and yourself well in a couple of parts. I highly suggest this for young professionals who are starting out/making their life's mission statement. He made me realize what I was worth because as I read the things in the book; they were also my gems after all. I also realized that I was worth more than I thought I was... and how valuable living this life with a purpose.

In the end, I surprisingly learned a lot from this book. I now know why they felt that way when they read it and why they were so grateful about this man. Because in someway, somehow, his book would make you find your own gems. He practically gave all those people back their own gems. So that's why... I also found mine.

Get a copy of it in all National Bookstore branches nationwide. Oh and did I forget to mention, I'm a fan of his work now! =)

KUMAGCOW Contains REAL Stuff and Does REAL Reviews

Wednesday, February 03, 2010

There are people who still think that they can get away with anything. I don't want to name names or companies but boy they are looking like scam artists already. I know why they are doing this and I wish there was something I could do to at least let them look at the brighter side. They want to suspend me from their system because they mentioned a couple of things that really does not even fall to my category. I want to believe what they say but to tell you the truth I heard horror stories from them already. I just hope and pray that they are different. I will let you guys know what will happen to this one soon. I already contacted them and am waiting for a response from their guys, I hope I get a decent reply and not those canned responses they issue me.

The least I think they could do is to give me what is due me. I have never felt so agitated and mad at the same time because I did not listen to other bloggers that said bad things about them, yet here I am now in their situation. I hope they can rectify things and make this work. I really hate it when companies like them disappoint me. My site contains real stuff and real reviews, everything that comes out of my head. I just wish they would never respond like I am the bad guy in this story. Hohumm...

I will keep you guys updated if there are developments on this case. Remember guys that KUMAGCOW Contains REAL Stuff and Does REAL Reviews of anything under the sun! You can bet your @$$ on that!

Think Before You Decide On Your Web Host!

Thursday, October 22, 2009

The importance of web hosting is like the life and blood of your site. It dictates who, when, where and how fast they would be able to view your content since this would be hosted on their own servers. I am admittedly not hosting my own site because of constraints but I have a quite dependable web host and never did I experience any downtime as far as my sites are concerned. If you want to get the best web hosting company, then you must simply choose according to the feedback they get from their current clients. I wish it was like this for every single one of us; but I guess I was wrong.

Photobucket

I also am administrating on line communities for my Alma Mater that caters to students, faculty, alumni and supporters of the senior's Basketball Team. I am a diehard fan of the warriors and I adore the sport that much; but at the time that we had so much activity and posts on the site, it suddenly had some major downtime that we could not control. All the content recently uploaded were not backed up; so we were in some way was only able to recover only a measly amount of data off of what we had a couple of months ago. Imagine the amount of photos and conversations on games that were all lost because of that. It was a really hard lesson we learned and we were trying to pick up the pieces too. If we did not have that problem and if data was managed by the web host company we would not be worried about down times like that in the first place. If they only had the company I was using to host my site, then the forums would have been up the whole time when the game was going on. The difference is that I had information on top web hosting reviews. This is where most people attest to the quality of service these companies provide. At the web hosting top is my provider; they should have given my web host a chance to get the services by next year when their lease expires. It would really be a different story IMHO. That is also factual statement provided at B4UDECIDE so make sure you look it up!

Awesome RPG for Free!

Wednesday, October 21, 2009

I have long been addicted to Role Playing Games since I was a kid. I do not know where it came from but when I got hold of the old NINTENDO console I used to play when I was in grade school I know it was not going to be the last one. Obviously other people from different parts of the globe would plead there must be something more than just playing 8 bit games... I was right because aside from the continued advancements in technology, there were other RPG stories that proved worthy of my hours in game time.

I have reviewed a lot of RPG Games already in my site and this one is really new. A word of warning though because just like other ones I have featured, this one is addicting. The setting is still medieval; where you will do quests, slay huge monsters; battle other players and much more. You level up each time you perform these tasks as experience points would be given when get more killed and accomplished with what is available in your arsenal. You can even enhance game play by purchasing weapons, armors, potions and spells just to make your character faster, higher and stronger. This is a web based on line game where you can ask your friends and followers to join so they would be able to do something on their spare time. But as I say, this is really addicting so I am sure everyone will get hooked even on their BETA release at http://www.algadon.com! Where else can you get free online RPG games in this day and age? I am sure you will easily get the hang of it!

MOOOOSIC REVIEWS: Almost by Tamia

Tuesday, January 20, 2009

Geeze, I've been mesmerized once again by Tamia. From her hit Officially Missing You to this one that discusses an ALMOST type of relationship. If a friendship or closeness could have worked out for you, then this is one thing that you should not miss to hear.

I like her so much, I plan to download this video and have it on my Play Station Portable. I've been having problems with it lately not playing the Beyonce songs I got from youtube. What's weird is that I have it playing fine in my laptop but not here. Maybe one of these days I'll try and find a better converter.

Well, if you plan to sit down and listen to sumthing while sippin a cup of tea I suggest you listen to this one because it will surely get you mushy. ^_^

Easy Going Web Hosting

WEB HOSTING

The World Wide Web has its flood gates open to thousands and thousands of web hosting companies. These are the guys you go to in order for your name to exist in the Internet. I recommend service providers to my cyberspace friends and family since I am the local version of geek squad. Routers, Wired and Wireless Devices, Internet Service Providers, Domain Name Servers are all but second language to me so where else should they turn to? One good thing lead to another in my site so I'm spreading the news and let them have the convenience I got from purchasing my own domain.

Today's online services can get you limitless ways to customize your website and add in widgets that would grab the attention of your chosen audience. Since I have a more personal site, my experience and day to day struggles are all out in the public. My musings of self expression has never stopped since day one. This is much of an outlet where other people can tell their own version of the story. It makes you understand how powerful the Internet is. If you plan to get acquainted with what's happening with the rest of the world, you need to be online.

When I was looking for a web host a year ago, I was asking local Internet Service Providers about it. They dealt with me with standard bills that reached a couple of thousand pesos just for maintenance. They did not even have single software to use so I could easily customize my site. I knew right from that start what I want so I went ahead and applied for go daddy. There are similar packages available at http://www.hosting-review.com/ and the site recommends other excellent web hosting providers that can match your need.

With their services at around a couple of hundred pesos (a few dollars), you can have your own domain and have them host it too. No other Domain Name Service configurations needed to start your own site. This was the best package I could get at that time when I started this all and I never looked back. My site and its success relied on the web host for its logistics. I plan to put up another one because there's still is a lot of work to do. I need to improve it, but I’m quite sure they won't be going down anytime soon. That's what I learned from their site, you can't tell anything just by looking at their prices. You need something more that that so they let you understand unbiased, valuable content in their site and reviews. If you want plain English, with no sugarcoating of anything under the sun, you should take a look at Web Hosting Reviews. You won’t regret it young web master!

I like John Lewis' Furniture

Friday, October 31, 2008

Now you see how smooth everything looks with John Lewis?! ^_^

I have been an impulsive buyer of sorts. This is one condition that I could not decipher myself (and I confess!) but in the day and age of “upcoming recessions”, “slow down of markets” and “volatile businesses”, I don’t think about spending too much on necessities for my house. Prices have gone up but if you think about it, you’ll just have to stick to your instincts in purchasing large items and base everything on “QUALITY”. You heard it ladies and gentlemen; the word for the day is quality.

I just had our house renovated. Some pieces of my furniture are really getting outdated. From those Avant-garde tables and chairs we have in the living room to modern metal equipment we have in the kitchen, and antiques passed on from generation to generation, we simply would need some of our furniture to bind these times together. I’m not rich and famous (well sometimes I am LOL) but I saw this collection from John Lewis Bedrooms, a famous retailer in the UK. When I saw the furniture, I was in love as everything seemed to be designed to fit in any room in my house. Now I know I would not have any problem choosing the perfect nightstands, dressers, wardrobes, and stools that can jazz up my generation gapped house. Everything will blend; it will be simple yet elegant and with flare.

I now have pictured the perfect bedroom for me and my brother in Ireland. I’ll decide to buy the best; including mattresses when I decide to migrate to London late this year (if all plans push through, I’ll be flying in a few months). With the pieces he has in his store, all my things will be kept in place. I know it’ll turn my bedroom into a luxurious place for retreat. I hope to really make my home there as a place of refuge, so I can relax and just concentrate on my I.T. studies at Kensington College.

I’ll recommend John Lewis Bedrooms to everyone when I get there. ^_^

KUMAGCOW Game Reviews; UTOPIA

Tuesday, October 07, 2008

Other kingdoms say OUCH when the snake bites! Arrgh!

UTOPIA a world unlike any other ; is the catchy phrase you see in this online web based game by SWIRVE.COM. I've been playing this for ages... (was playing Genesis for years!) but like any game, sometimes I do okay.. sometimes I don't. You better visit the site if you haven't played it yet... this site won People's Voice webby awards for 2002 and 2003 as the gaming site of the year.

We're all mere mortals I know... but in this online browser based game, we can be anything we wish to be... something like role playin.. I'm in a kingdom called Kingdom of the Snake right now and it's fairly doing good in Wars... if you were there the last "age" (which is the game duration) you'll probably notice we're doing much better now... more better players coming in and activity is becoming higher... the game takes turns so you may have to login more than twice a day to keep your province alive... and in this age we stand Wars: 3 - Wins: 2. It's just enough, now we have to plan for a better strategy because we already are preparing for bigger kingdoms to war with. It's not that violent (no don't get that idea!) but it'll keep you to your feet because even if you go home or you go to school/work you still sometimes wonder "what happened to my kingdom?!" its a lil addictive and haunting.

So if you plan to waste time online (LOLZ) and enjoy conquering, warring, casting spells, meteors and fireballing people... then don't forget to play Utopia @ http://games.swirve.com/utopia

I wanna say a big HI to my KD mates btw! Good job last war!
^_^
Let's do a better job next war! Wraaaaah!
