Meet New Ride Hailing App: PeekUp

Filipinos are always looking for alternatives and with the recent high prices and hard times getting a car, this news just came at the right time. A new player in the ride hailing industry just opened shop, and they are called PeekUp. They're app is now available on the App Store and Google Play, and I've downloaded it too to give it a try.

The platform is easy to use, and utilizes Google Maps as the base. So most often than not, you will be able to find the place you are going to if it is on that too. Payments currently accept CASH and CARDS (more soon). And upon checking the vehicle types, they have Compact (4 seater) and Plus (6 seater) vehicles.

Their rates also seem a bit lower than the leading app, so you really get to have a choice now and save a few bucks using it. As for driver availability, they are still ramping up and encouraging referrals with drivers and passengers. I bet this would be good in the next few months as more drivers get to join them (6000 according to their CEO). It was a fun and festive afternoon as we celebrated the launch of emergency rapid response app JUANETWORX. It was set at the historical Club Filipino in Greenhills San Juan and everyone was clad in terno and barong tagalog, which fits the apps reason for existing, to entertain and help Filipinos wherever you are and whenever.  Imagine a button which when you press, starts a process to act on your emergency til it gets resolved, something OFW's can benefit from especially if they're working outside the country.

Huawei Announced Milestones During Developer Day in the Philippines

Phone and ICT giant Huawei just reaffirmed their commitment to improve the AI life in the country during the recent Huawei Develpment Day 2021. They showcased how they would be aggressively doing this by forging strategic partnership with existing educational institutions and companies with Huawei Philippines Consumer Business Group. Currently they've got 96 percent local apps in the Huawei AppGallery. During the session, key partners presented lik mobile wallet GCash, health platform KonsultaMD and popular radio station WishFM.

Huawei Country Manager George Li reiterates "We would like to partner with the country's top brands so we can expand more products locally. A seamless AI life is possible and we are part of that interconnected world."

During the event, they announced milestones with regards to HarmonyOS 2. For starters, they introduced DecoupledOS and hardware, second is improved sharing capabilities on devices, smooth and low latency operation of hardware that carries it and also, the DevEco Studio for Huawei app developers. The Filipino really did quite well during the Tokyo Olympic Games this 2020. We won the first Gold Medal and hauled two Silver medals and one bronze, making the country the top Southeast Asian country to get them even under the pandemic.
