QC District 1 Congressman Arjo Atayde Moves for More Safeguards on Maharlika Investment Fund

Things have been very busy in Congress this week as the Maharlika Investment fund takes centerstage on the plenary. They passed it hours ago with 279 saying YES and only 6 against it. It officially holds House Bill No. 6608 and Quezon City District 1 Congressman Arjo Atayde is moving to have additional safeguards in the bill particularly to make sure protection from corruption is in place.

Arjo says "I would support the movement to include safeguards in the Maharlika Investment Fund to make sure the fund really benefits the country. There are amendments already adopted by the lower house. This involves the non inclusion of GSIS and SSS which was announced earlier. We need to scrutinize the source of funds to protect it from irregularities and questionable investments for the fund. I assure that we will continue to safeguard the fund and put the Filipino citizen's interest first. There will be penal provisions meant to punish directors, trustees, officers of those managing the fund. On section 44, fines can be from 50,000 to 2 Million pesos and jail time of 1 to 5 years."

Hopefully this would augment the national budget, create more savings for government offices and increase economic development not just in cities, but the countryside. There are over 50 countries doing Sovereign Wealth funds like Singapore, HK, our neighbors Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, Vietnam and new nation East Timor. Hopefully this would generate funds in the future to benefit more Filipinos and not fall in the hands of corrupt politicians.

Quezon City to Kick Off Business Investment Summit

Quezon City has been doing quite good despite of the current challenges of the economy. With the pandemic happening, the various complications we get from EU war, the higher US interest rates and inflation, it's hurting us most where it hurts. Recent developments with the TV5 and ABSCBN deal have probably resulted to this and TV5 released this statement today. This will make closing the deal to be a bit delayed and ABSCBN and TV5 agreed to pause after some legislators raised issues regarding the investment move.

This would be heartbreaking for a lot of Filipinos who have been looking forward to the new things announced a few days ago which delves on entertainment content and new broadcast equipment for TV5 studios that is part of this deal.

Huawei 2021 Report: Achieving Milestones, Investing in Future Technologies

Still reaping milestones during a stressful year, Huawei has been able to get CNY 636.8 Billion profit in year 2021 and a huge CNY 113.7 Billion net profit for the same year which is over 75.9% increase year on year. A substantial 142.7 Billion though went to expenses which is a mere 22.4 percent of its total earnings, but is expected to invest further more in research and development in the coming years. They attribute this to steady growth in the enterprise and consumer business sector and the work they've put in on the development of their ecosystem.

Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou puts this as a win despite revenue decrease during this year and she says "This is due to how we are able to make a profit and increase cash flows. We certainly are able to deal with uncertainties in the market, we increased operations specifically the Huawei carrier business and how we got to deploy 5G networks in different countries. We have partnered with carriers hence signing around 3000 entities/contracts for more 5G applications. It's being used in districts that have manufacturing plants, mines, iron and steel plants, including ports and hospitals which are essential industries.

What's even better is their vision for growth is going to continue, investing in future technologies targeting transportation, energy production, finance and the manufacturing sector. A little more than 700 cities around the world benefited from their partnership with Huawei which includes Fortune 500 corps.

According to Simon Lin, Huawei's President for Asia Pacific "Our strategy this year includes increase in R&D investment, be in the middle of technologies concerning connectivity and computing. You've been working hard for the money and save in the bank, but is that enough? Have you ever wondered how easy it was to invest these days? No? Well let me tell you about GInvest.
