Have You Tried Gentle Parenting?

Sunday, November 27, 2022

I haven't, but from the looks of it, it makes total sense.

Back in the day, the parenting style in the Philippines was perceived to be very strict, ultra conservative, very matriarchal, and include flying slippers and hangers every once in a while.

Not everyone knew that parenting actually can work even if we deal with kids and do parenting in a very calm demeanor. It's properly called gentle parenting. It involves respect, understanding, empathy and setting healthy boundaries, without taking away individual happiness which is extremely important for kids. The style would make them very confident and independent too.

When a kid does something bad, don't attack the person, but the action. Tell them how you feel, introduce another way to do it and ask them why it would be better. Ease in on why you think why his actions are wrong. It also pays to be a good example. Not only would they inherit your good looks, but your manners. If you are kind, respectful, they'll see how you walk the talk and become an inspiration for them. You'll be a person that they'd aspire to become especially your good traits.

You should also encourage his/her good actions. We're not here to just point out his bad side, we should always notice how good they were at school, how they help doing chores. It's the little things that make up a huge dent on their personality because that's how positive reinforcement works. Aside from that, make the habit of asking and supporting their dreams. Be it a cashier in the restaurant, a construction worker, a truck driver, a pilot or a doctor, this will make a huge difference in the long run as they develop independence and the value of education.

Although education seem to be a bit pricey these days, there's always AIA Philippines' Future Scholar. A product that can get you cash payouts, an assure you that your child's dreams of graduatiing someday would be fulfilled. This can act as savings, an investment, to help finance your child's education even after school's done. This can also be claimed lump sum if anything untoward happens to you.

UnionBank Confirms Working On Metaverse, Announced Milestones on 13th ETalk Tales

Wednesday, December 15, 2021

Unionbank has accelerated transformation not just of the company, but the whole banking industry. They brought power to small and medium enterprises, brought access to even the remote areas, and improved the lives of countless Filipinos. They have been instrumental in the growth of companies, even government agencies, and has been lauded not just in the country but the whole Asian region.

James Illeto VP for Corporate and Media Reputation Management of UB says "This is our last E Talk tales and is about gratitude for everyone who supported us this year. What an exciting year it has been with Unionbank, we received awards, has been the most recommended bank in digital. We can't wait to unrap more."

Ms Pinky Webb says "2021 has been a banner year for Unionbank, with life changing projects, it redefined what banking is today."

Henry Aguda the Senior EVP and Chief technology Operations Officer for UB says "Unionbank has blased the trail in digital. The pandemic has created this shift, the way we interact, transact in the financial sector. We always had the forward looking view and we have thrived during the hard times. In 2020, we focused on our digital strengths, we increased by 300 percent in customers and is still continuing to 2021. We're seeing the light at the end of the tunnel by Q2, even if we had to face lock-downs. I'm glad to say we are ending the year on a high. Only Unionbank has been given a digital bank license as an actual bank. We now have a San Pedro Innovation Campus, a major step for us that we have it during at a time of crisis. We have superior innovation, registering 21 patents, 18 more in the process supporting inventors, think tanks, and more. We also have network and branch transformation with 100 percent uptime, data center connectivity, 150 branches transformed of over 195 branch nationwide. We also have Instapay 2.0, leading the way of transacting electronically in the marketplace. We also have the SME Banking Platform so MSME's have a way of IFC Investments, and banking apps that answer their banking needs. We also have our tech advocacy about wealth management, it is educational support and trained 101 digital transformation specialists, with thought leaders in government included. We also have UBX platform signups, where thousands of MSME's got their help. Customer accounts also increased, phenomenal performance even during 2021's pandemic. Our customers, employees and stakeholders have always been there, thank you!"

Arvie De Vera the Co Founder and CEO of Union Digital says "We wanted to have the company as a digital bank. We are now a tech company and a bank. What differentiates us is that we exist in the cloud. Our infrastructure is not as huge, but because of it, our services are lower priced. With digital, people can be assesed by transaction data. It allows us to imagine a future with little or no fees through blockchain. Send money in minutes, where customers can get the solution in a few taps. The future is for banks to become digital, but it is a very complicated process. The newly transformed Unionbank, UBX and Union Digital did a hybrid approach, to embrace it, to adapt to it. It can address the needs of a digital world. Fintech has enormous growth, blockchain adoption has grown 36 times and open finance has been prioritized by Banko Sentral. The Philippines is the 4th fastest digital economy in the world, and is expected to reach higher in the next few years. The P2E has also grown, 40 percent of it is from the Philippines. The Filipino is driving it again. Our country remains the top in social media usage worldwide, even Ecommerce adoption and the opportunity to grow is great. Unionbank is the only publicly listed bank that is granted a digital bank license. We also championed open finance in the country, it enables companies to work together better. Our API's can be used in real time, in a secure manner. It supports the industry and empower its growth. At our heart, we give what they want, what they need in security and proper governance. We have solid leadership, one who understands how to be first movers."

Albert Cuadrante the Chief Marketing Officer says "The year has ups and downs, but we are happy we are on our way to recovery. The digital economy has increased, in ecommerce and food, adding 12 million just this year, around 17 Billion dollars in the digital platforms. That's 4.3 percent of the GDP of 2021. The DTI targets to increase this and it is a validation to see our platforms continously improve over the years addressing our clients needs, to thrive in the new environment. Our fintech groups, including Union Digital, will push boundaries in the coming year. There will be more good news, have a safe Christmas!"

They want to continue to be ahead of the curve, follow customers where they are heading to. They don't want to lose the personal touch, to have everything they do revolve around the needs of the customer. Right now, UB is actually working on things like the METAVERSE (they actually have a branch now but are still working on it) and is optimistic that they would be able to deliver their services not just for their customers now, but the future. EON is growing, Unionbank Digital is also growing, and people want digital capability even before the pandemic, it's not gonna close down. Keep focusing on the customer, and everything else will follow. They need speed, decisiveness, whilst being customer centric.

HOPE in times of Crisis

Sunday, June 27, 2021

Ever wondered why the Maginhawa Community Pantry has been so successful? It's because they do something that makes sense, don't cheat the farmers, and a lot of good, kind hearted people that choose to help each other in times of need. Although there are thousands of them lining up to fill up their pantries, the help didn't really run out and even the local government noticed, a really good thing.

That little brouhaha over red tagging (by some people that this pantry wanted to also help) was definitely an issue, but hopefully it's been cleared. I wish the support QC is giving the organizer (over security) is enough so that they could still help more people who need it. The good deed has also spread like wildfire in other parts of the country, and I'm so happy that happened. We need to still have HOPE that in some way, we all would get through this no matter how impossible it may look like today.

I've seen some private entities are also lending a hand. Like Pizza Hut who sent 10 whole sacks of rice to the Maginhawa Community Pantry, that's going to benefit a lot of people especially since Filipinos consider this as staple. I hope other organizations, corporations do the same. Aside from that, I hope those who line up only get what they need so that others would benefit from it too. (Although I don't know if this is from the corp or their employees, it still is important to help when you can.)

We can't lose hope even if we feel so burdened these days. There are good Samaritans out there that would still love to do it. We need to look for the opportunity to help in times of crisis, look for organizations that do and share what you can.

We can.

Leading Digital Adoption: Unionbank Celebrates 39th Anniversary

Wednesday, January 20, 2021

Digital banking has made the challenging days of the pandemic a little bearable. AI and block chain has also been useful to transform this all as Unionbank leads the way for the digital adoption of the Philippines. They are currently celebrating their 39th Anniversary and with this, they continue their mission to spearhead digital banking technology with you their customers in mind. They are also making good headway.

Mr. Henry Aguda the SVP and Chief Technology and Operations Officer + Chief Transformation Officer for Unionbank says "Exciting things are happening with Unionbank as we celebrate our 39th anniversary. Our celebration started with the Unionbank SME Business Banking app. We currently rank 2nd in Instapay which means we are second with regards to usage among other companies. This allows our SME's to have banking capabilities just like the big boys. We also launched BUX and it has already 50K onboard. We also launched SeekCap and Sentro so SME's can get capital and sell bulk as they scale products into the market."

They also addressed Senator Sherwin Gatchalian's case and said "We value the privacy of the good Senator and we have made warnings for our other clients. These hackers prey on emotion, use other sites or emails, use and copy Unionbank's logo to do phishing. While we cannot disclose details, we are working with authorities to run after them. It is not a security hack. We have the transaction details and logs and we are not resting til they are held accountable. We are working on it til now. We ensure the processes are logged to protect our clients. It's a shared responsibility of both us and our clients, so make sure you use different emails for online banking and the regular work. "

"Are we ready? Yes, we have the support of our regulators and a framework that requires us to report incidents like these. There are a couple of bad actors/criminals that make this difficult but we do not succumb to them. It has increased the awareness of our customer base, we are becoming vigilant, to more digital transactions with multiple validations. They will only prey on the weak, but everybody is coming together to push out these criminals out of the banking industry."

"We went through this digital transformation 4 years back. We made sure we prepared for AI. We created the organization to aggregate more information and curating them with other agencies and corporations in  compliance with the National Privacy Commission. It's a long journey but now we are here. We are going to tailor fit customer products that are most relevant to our customers. This also protects transactions going to the bank. From laundering, to fraud, this is anticipated as patterns, all of which are in the initial stages. Our advocacy is to be more sophisticated than criminals, AI is helping us with that. We are now at 170 institutions and continue to scale up, Unionbank has launched PHX. We hope to share this with the government and our corporate clients."

When asked about education campaigns for less tech inclined customers, he says "The best awareness campaign is making the app as easy to use as possible. We took a look at our GSIS customers and worried they won't be able to use the app, our program "Convert" taught them to use the digital platform. Now they can bank at the comforts of their home, but most of them still prefer to go to the branch. When we got them onboard though, they became our ambassadors."

Their mandate today is to move the Filipino into the digital space. Their platform made it possible to reach a lot of people. They are one of the most successful banks in the ASEAN and this transformation has driven them to do it til now.

Unionbank is excited to continue to advocate digital banking services. The end goal is where their customers would move to. Nobody gets left behind. They could move much faster but they have customers who prefer the personalized service is. They are still there servicing customers during the pandemic, the branches have been able to accommodate seniors. They are letting their customers grow with them, and that's a good thing.

You'll see more of that.

VIVO Y69 Face ID Access Activation

Thursday, February 22, 2018

Told you a day before that VIVO ain't stopping innovating and this is one of those instances. Aside from the real strong importance to security, they've managed to get a feature up to the well loved VIVO Y69 phone. It''s affordable but doesn't lack the feature some mid-range phones already are getting. You are not short changed and all you need to do is do a system update.

This is one of the nice things that they can do because of their proprietary Funtouch OS. Once you install the Funtouch OS update the Y69 will be equipped with the Face ID Access. You can just elect your own face to be the one to unlock your phone, it measures points and features on your face and unlocks it fast.

For those who don't know, the Y69 models run on powerful processors. It's got little to no bugs as it's got a MediaTek MT6750 and 3GB RAM plus a 32GB ROM with it. You can also insert a microSD Card up to 256GB and it'll still work, that's a lot of storage for more photos and videos I bet.

If you want to know more about this phone or the other models, visit www.vivo.com/ph or their social media channels. They've got everything there!

VIVO Security Innovations

Wednesday, February 21, 2018

It's been always a priority for smartphone brands to innovate and I think Vivo won't be hanging around and let others lead the way. Yes currently, there are security features and use biometric measures to do it. If you haven't been to CES, it's where brands and companies showcase the best of the best of their work and just recently in CES 2018, Vivo introduced some really good measures in Las Vegas Nevada. I've used similar technologies in the past and did fingerprint scan locks only on the home button or the back of the phone, but this time, Vivo just came out with the first under display fingerprint scanner. Isn't that amazing? Now you can unlock your phone with the pattern on your fingers when you touch the display screen of your phone, unprecedented with any brand so far.

Aside from that, they are using the 24MP camera for their advantage and employ it for facial recognition functions. It uses 100 different facial identification points which means it would only identify you if you've got accurate parts of your face identified. It doesn't need to be complicated because the security this one does works for you. This identifies the depth of your face so you get a precise and effective security access all the time.

But that won't end there because they will still put the fingerprint scanner at the back so you can still use your index finger. This only means Vivo cares more about its users and it's always looking for ways to improve the security of your data by using the best thing to identify a user, your face, your body parts, and I like that part most. Check out www.vivo.com/ph and their social media accounts if you have questions about the new phones they have inside the store. The Vivo V7+ is the latest, it's pretty handy and lightweight, and will do the right amount of security you need to open it. Easy, take a look at it soon!

Microsoft Asks: Is Your Company Compliant with the Data Privacy Act?

Friday, March 17, 2017

Spent the afternoon having lunch and excercising my brain about cloud security and network love. I'm glad I still have the gist taking this in, and making use of my Computer Engineering diploma after a while. This topic really concerns me.

Microsoft has a long standing commitment with the Philippine government regarding the Data Privacy Act to make sure Filipinos have solutions for security, privacy and transparency. If your company has 250 employees and up requires compliancy with the Data Privacy Act. The National Privacy Comission was created as an agency to implement this and you have to do this before September 9, 2017.

Dale Jose the Solutions Specialist of Enterprise Mobility Security of Microsoft Philippines remarks "Microsoft isn't just in the business of security and we're syncing it with the Data Privacy Act. Attacks happen every minute and the mindset should be that you must "assume that you have already been breached". We know companies have invested in firewalls and before, we always had the notion of just building walls, making it thicker and thinking it's secure, but today those permiter security is no longer enough. Attacks happen because of compromised credentials (75%) and it is important to protect your identity. If you read in the dark world people sometimes shop for credentials. Republic Act 10173 includes encryption. We need to protect data while it is stored or if it is in transit. Organizations today should be able to report breach in 72 hours and if you don't you will suffer the penalties of that. It's the same security that we have in Office 365, Windows 10 and Enterprise Mobility+Security. They go through a value chain of protect, detect and respond. Based on studies, it takes over 500 days to detect malware in Asia. There are options today without the need for VPN, Microsoft Azure Active Directory for example detects when there is an unusual login attempt on your directory. You will need to go through verification with Microsoft threat intelligence and we update this in tons of devices. All these events are also monitored in Azure as risk events. You can creat a policy to block access or allow access then challenge them with Azure MFA security. We also have Microsoft Intune to manage mobile devices, applications and PC's for company issues devices so you have the ability to confine data and not on personal emails etc. and do selective or full wipe of the device which can be done remotely. You can also do this on policies on Windows 10 for company owned devices. When you look at the protection of the document, it all starts from the creation of the document. You have to do policy enforcement from the start and choose the audience whom you want the data to be seen. We also have Cloud Application Security which can run and check how many cloud apps are installed and how much risk you are getting with these tools. We also have Microsoft Advanced Threat Analytics that detects, prioritize and investigate advanced attacks and insider threats before they can do damage."

If you need to know how much time you have left, go to aka.ms/dpaguide. If you are not compliant, there is jail time and penalties involved.  Herns Hermida the Cloud and Enterprise Business Lead of Microsoft Philippines says "When we talk to customers, people ask how to get the infrastructure at par, my suggestion is to MOVE EVERYTHING TO THE CLOUD. It's cheaper, you can run things securely but customers who have done this experience security benefits that they don't have when they use in premise infrastructure. The Microsoft Cloud is something you can trust because it works with Security, privacy and conteol, compliance and security. Go to Youtube and search Cloud Security 101 with my name on it and you'll get a very detailed explanation of what you need to learn in cloud security. Everything that we do starts with security. Every developer starts from that. So if you are asked by your PC to restart your computer no matter how inconvenient that may be, please do because we install patches for security and that is our responsibilty. We want our customers safe and we invest 1 Billion dollars every year for it. Microsoft cannot do this alone so we have partners around the world to deal with attacks now and in the future. Attacks increase in amount and intensity. Using Azure, you can use security propreitary or third party software to protect our customers. We have hundreds of data centers in 38 regions. The Microsoft Cloud is used by 85% of Fortune 500 companies so why shouldn't you? We also use our own Hyper V, we use them on our data centers because we believe in it. We have an internal and external DDOS Defense System, we also do Data Segregation, do Data Protection, multiple options for replicating data and do Data Destruction when they leave Azure as Microsoft follows procedure to make it inaccessible after wiping out. Our defense strategy protect breach and assume breach to make sure we do not encounter problems. We do big data analytics to seek threat detection so if there is imminent attack or attack going on already. These solutions have also gotten certifications and programs including ISO and has the biggest compared with competitors."

Microsoft Azure is the most efficient cloud security solution today. Companies in the Philippines already are using them as we speak so don't discount yourself from acheiving the things that the Data Privacy Act needs to see you comply on that date. What they also need to see is your commitment and understanding this may be a tall order but if you need to secure data in all aspects especially of your customers. You need to be pro active and be aware. It's dangerous to have your date lying around somewhere and waiting to be pounced on by hackers and use it for the not so greater good.

You can also answer the risk assesment questionaire on the site mentioned above if you want to know if you are in trouble or not, so start from that.

The whole network, software and cloud infrastructure are all prone to attacks and what a good IT Manager should do is not just fight back when the problems arise, but make sure to prevent it. The security demands are huge but as long as you're on top of things, you won't need any special work done because you've already prevented trouble by doing total SaaS visibility and control, securing applications and corporate property, prevent customer credit card data theft and control what data goes in and out. This is what should be done in cloud deployments whether private, public or hybrid types. Know when to how to be a hero in the corporate world by securing everything with Palo Alto Networks to start securing with Microsoft Azure,  Office 365, AWS and more. It's really not reliable to just stay with whatever comes with your cloud service. You need to also check if Aperture would be the best solution for Network Administrators in your office too!

Palo Alto is here to protect our way of life in the digital age. We can't prevent 100% but it's pretty close. Our innovations address the key gaps in the security industry. We need to make sure we have complete visibility, reduce the attack surface, prevent known threats and the unknown ones. You want to block off apps that your company does not sanction like bittorent and really dangerous sites. We need to make sure to have less risk from things out there especially malware and privacy threats even if we discover new ones every minute. De Securite et de Prise de Decision Ethique Procedures

Wednesday, February 16, 2011

Where Is Arroyo?!

Wednesday, April 14, 2010

Are you wondering where President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is?! She's in Washington apparently and attended the Nuclear Security Summit. The United States and Russia are cutting down on weapons and this is something like the first step to further eliminate the need to use it for weaponry. Their goal is to rid the world of these weapons totally, I just wish they really are doing it in their own country.

What if the others did really did not keep their weapons and only a few only have it?! Are we going to suffer if a world war erupts?! Countries like ours that do not have atomic weapons are at shooting range anytime of the day. We will probably be one of the few targets in the Pacific Ocean because we are strategically located near all the other countries. I hope there was some way we could make one ourselves. Or maybe home grown missiles from garlic or cow dung and manufactured somewhere in Bocaue, Bulacan. That would be really nice to see since we are still gonna save the earth, we are organic ha-ha!

So?! How's the weather down there?!

The Need for EMAIL Security

Tuesday, December 01, 2009

The EMAIL functionality at the office showed a lot of promise because we had to use them again today for uploading files on our servers. It is relatively a new and easy way since we now are connecting to main office servers through virtual private networks. The most important part of this structure is the security involved in transferring data if you are in a public network and if you are outside on business trips you may have no choice but to use WIFI networks provided for in hotels and establishments. Outlook email encryption has been a necessity on these occasions since the added AES 256 bit blanket of security adds a lot for the safety of non public information. This is a plug in you need to install on OUTLOOK and a lot of multinational corporations have benefited from this.

COW

The transit of data should never be compromised since a lot of reports, statistics and planning are done with the exchange of electronic document copies sent through this medium. I would have preferred someone have these printed and sent through messengers; but in this day and age you need to have them sent instantaneously. You should think about it too if the offices are oceans apart. If the messenger could travel with the speed of light then that would be a better alternative; but that would be impossible. Data encryption is a necessity and getting those additional things to secure it would make your work easy and worry free. You should check out experts at ENCRYPTOMATIC and get the solution you need.
