Abe Olandres of Yugatech talked about Redcap Technology in 5G. In theory, it's got faster speed with high capacity initially, but it was costly. Redcap addresses that. iACADEMY Strengthens Foundation Partnership to Benefit Tech Students

For a country with over 86.98 Million internet users and over 73.6 percent internet penetration, the Philippines still has a great need for tech and IT professionals. Office of PNP Chief Marbil Issues Statement on False Information in Social Media

Recent pronouncements, malicious attacks on social media has gotten the office of the PNP Chief Rommel Francisco Marbil worried where they insinuate removal of rice allowances for PNP personnel and having them donated to persons deprived of liberty. These are being strongly denied, unfounded and baseless as there have been no directives from their office, nor do they have plans to do so. These moves have been orchestrated to discredit the PNP Chief who has been working hard to restore reputation through smart methods. They say these are outright lies, fabricated, made to malign his policies.

PNP Chief Marbil is not using the word WAR in addressing operations in substance abuse, as he doesn't want to be associated with human rights abuse in the past. His office has noted essential reforms as of recent:

Mass formation and Flag Raising (15-20 minutes)

Personnel should be present and operational at 8am sharp 

Prohibit the use of cellphones while on patrol

Simplification of personnel compliance 

New UPER Criteria

Finish 70 percent of warrants and wanted individuals

No favoritism in promotions and assignments

Non exclusivity of promotions

Restriction of Police Community Relations

Non re-assignment of PNP personnel facing cases on their previous units

Meetings to be conducted online to maximize time for unit commanders

No changes for one month

Removal of 24 hour duty for personnel

They also deny the inclusions of inverted crawls in the PNP Physical Fitness Test. They also deny false information about donation of allowances as CIP, CDP, and rice subsidies are automatically added on regular salaries.

Respondents are forewarned that such accusations and lies will not be tolerated, and a thorough investigation is being done. People found at fault will be sanctioned.

He also urges the public to be vigilant and only believe verified information. Trust that the PNP under Chief Marbil and his office will serve and protect you, the Filipino people, with professionalism and integrity.

With Globe MyFi, You Can Do It All!

Life seems coming back to normal and yes, bloggers are starting to attend events and press conferences left and right. I've been working remotely on occasion, while it's hard to juggle a laptop, 2 mobile phones and a DSLR camera, I pretty much would depend on data that my postpaid phone would be able to accommodate. My iPhone is pretty ancient and yes, batteries are kinda dismal. So instead of putting it in hot spot mode all day, I needed something that can handle all my devices and save me some headaches when deadlines occur.

To change the WIFI settings of your device, login to your router via 192.168.8.1 on your browser. Type in the username and password, I used admin for both and got to the interface above. This is the place you'll change your network name and password, if you want to elect a new one, go ahead and do it here. Save the settings and you should get the prompt that it has saved successfully. Then reconnect to your network with the new password you saved. Make sure you remember the router password so you can go back to the page if you want to change settings. If you forget the password, that's what the reset button on the device when you open the flap.

What I love about this device is the battery life. A single full charge could make this device last around 48 hours. Since its got its own battery, you don't need to depend on your mobile phones that drain too fast when its on hot spot mode. This frees up a lot of the power consumption I can use for social media, or other phone functions that I need to cover the whole day. It's not in my plan, but an all Tagalog song is on my mind but we don't know when, maybe we can reshape what Filipino rap is around the world and hope people listen. Anyone who wants to be an artist, don't be afraid to be different. You begin like that, but if you start mixing, just keep going and don't give up on it, get angry! That would be an interesting idea to re-do my father's song, it is something you can expect, we don't know yet, but let's do it." 

 

 

He adds "The Ilokano lines was just the most savage lines, it was angst, all or nothing, the abrasiveness of my voice that time, that was what it was. I was watching anime with my sister and I was trying to calm down, I didn't want to freak out really. So many factors came into that song, the recipe I think is I'm a proud Filipino and it shows on that song, it is because of that reason. There is this actual joke in my camp, if I fall down, I already have 2 songs written. I'm just a regular guy, who just writes music, I do recordings on my phone and sometimes I wake up an idea, sometimes I don't. The direction I wanna go was already there, this song Panalo didn't take that long because I just had to adjust. I don't see myself in the battle arena. Kultura was a music video which I did with HBOMB, it will come out on February 21. That video was just so hard to do, it was like a movie. Wether they do come out, just keep an eye for it, I hope everyone takes a listen. On my first concert, I would want my favorites to be there. I want to work alongside them, I want to still be me, breathe the same air as them. I would say it's the form of respect each other receive in the platform. The scene of the OG's deserved to be respected, but competition is us against the world, not us against us. I'm interested in acting on TV or movies, I don't have any leading ladies in mind. I am thankful to God for the success and being able to provide for my family, that's my priority. It's more than I can imagine or dream of, I will explore what I love doing the most and that's music."

Free Wifi, Faster Access and Cellphone Users Protection Pushed by FICTAP

Super early morning talk with the people behind FICTAP, it’s a party list organization pushing for the welfare of those who wish for fast internet, ICT, VAS, Telecommunications, Cable TV and Broadcast Media. Now I haven’t seen anything like this but I’m interested in why they are representing this as a sector.

They want laws passed for improved public wifi, to let more people have access to information at a faster, more efficient rate. They also propose a cellphone users act for consumer protection so no telecom company would advertise falsely about unlimited promos, plus a custom sim card act to specifically create ones that would be offered for OFW’s, Senior Citizens, Teachers, Mothers so they receive appropriate discounts and promos. They also want a separate online sellers, buyers and freelancers act to further strengthen the e-commerce industry plus a stricter anti catfish law for those unscrupulous individuals who would fool other people in social media and attempt crimes. It’s a long list of things that would benefit a lot of people which Estrellita Neng Juliano Tamano, the nominee who grew up in Cotabato, Cecilia La Madrid Dy who hails from Isabela and Jose Del Mendo of Pangasinan and Rolando Olog of Samar wants to represent.

Ms. Tamano says “We hail from regional Cable TV operators and also do cable internet. Federation of Cable TV and Telecommunications Association of the Philippines. I operate mine in Cotabato, Cavite, Manila and Pasay. They filed foreign equity on cable TV so we separated from the giant corporations. Cable TV is both communication and broadcast and now we do voice, data, and they were not able to pass foreign equity bill. We as micro and small medium enterprise have a different vision and we implement public wifi in third to fourth class municipalities, public schools, dswd, libraries, bus terminals and we are still doing that. We are asked why we are doing this but as a 20 year organization, we have thought of making progress and implement not just in the countryside but everywhere else in the country. Other countries have already done that, we have the capacity to make this happen and we know how to do it. We want to improve the existing free public wifi and not just 256kbps. The republic act dictates only two networks have gateway access, and only the big corporations have that through marine fiber (from other countries). We tried talking to them but the landing stations require you to put a lot of money through the two networks. You have to pay them a lot before you can get access to it, if this was open, it would be better. We have already put our position papers, we won’t be able to fulfill the landline requirement because it is a dead industry. Our neighbors have the fastest connection but we lag behind in implementation. We know cable internet from A-Z and even know how much it costs, but we want this advocacy because we need this for the industry and all progressive have it. We can do it in the Philippines. There is no law also in losing your prepaid load, so if it happens there will be no protection. We also asked seniors if they have Facebook or use the internet in one forum, they all raised their hands, but nobody gets their discount as accorded to them by law. OFW’s too pay for roaming charges and don’t get affordable ways to reach their families. The youth and students on the other hand can access restricted sites, teachers need to check their email everyday but don’t have budget for it, getting online is a chore and expensive. E-Commerce is also booming but there are no protection for consumers, for businesses, people fool other people online. People get killed too, we have no laws on most of these things because they are worried about how they would be asked and have no knowledge about it, but we are experienced with it, we know how much it costs and Filipinos would benefit from it. I have been here quite a lot but have never seen them serve actual food aside from the pastries. Interestingly enough, it has always been difficult for people to have a decent coffee shop in the Tomas Morato area these days and I’ve never written about this place because I want it for myself - sometimes or often. People flock the Starbucks branches nearby but I’d rather go here (this HUGE one) or other small coffee shops because they have some special perks that your popular one doesn’t even come close with.

This place is primarily the BEST internet gaming hub in the country. Two floors are dedicated and house the latest Predator machines and gamers from across the world (oh yes they did), play here because it’s that good. Now it’s very important for them to have the accorded nutrition so they do have the right amount of eye hand coordination needed to beat other teams. They just introduced new group meals on the menu and I’m ecstatic for you to see how this makes this place even better.

The meat platter we ordered had all the steak lovers drooling. The lovely steak, the huge rib, the quarter chicken and tatsy Hungarian sausage. It was good and of course, it was gone in a few minutes.

Their other meal package had these pizzas on them. I figured we could go back there a few days ago and ordered it. You can choose two pizza flavors, this one had the crust made with squid ink hence the color. Included in it are 5 drinks (you can choose the iced tea flavor), the southern fried chicken (which I’ll show later), a full plate of pasta (I chose Pesto), the two stretched pizzas, plus 5 Korean Ice Cream varieties. Honestly it’s a steal if you can feed 5 people with it.

Fried Chicken, super crunchy!

I like my fried chicken like this, doused in flour, breaded nicely that’s why it comes out extremely crunchy. It’s also got chips on the side so you’ve got more things to talk about while having snacks. They have dirty rice so for people who believe RICE IS LIFE, then you may order that as well.

Salmon with Mushrooms in Ponzu Sauce

For something a little more fancy, they’ve got Salmon on top of mashed potatoes, mushroom pieces, lima beans, ponzu sauce and micro greens. It may look intimidating and a lot, but it’s worth it. Especially if you have female friends, this would be counted as their more healthy option. They prolly had this seared and oven baked before they put everything together. Quite good.

Crispy Pata

For those who crave it, yes they have Crispy Pata. Their dipping sauce is more on the sweet side but you may ask for condiments as you please. I asked for Tabasco and it was easy for them to whip it out because they’ve got good wings too.

For the piece de resistance, they’ve got the hits in their cafe for our dessert. The first of which is Red Velvet Crinkles (my personal favorite), then the cold Brazo De Mercedes, plus the Pistachio Sansrival. Game over. Now if you’re in the Tomas Morato area and looking for wifi connection, Highgrounds Cafe can accomodate you and lease 2 hours of ultra fast wifi connection for every 150 peso purchase. They can also have you use the wifi for a fee; very cheap actually if you’re uploading Youtube videos or downloading stuff, this would be the perfect place for you.

Highgrounds Cafe is located at 67 Scout Rallos Street in between Tomas Morato and Scout Torillo streets in Quezon City. They’ve got real good coffee too. Meal packages for 5 starts around Php 1999 and the other costs Php 2999, but trust me it's a FEAST, worth every penny.

The 360 Mini Wireless Intercom IP Camera

I've been so worried about home whenever I'm out on events because even though there are people inside the house, I forget a lot of things and get worried if there are uninvited guests sometimes. I'm just like you, we want to see the things inside our house just to feel more secured because let's face it, the Philippines isn't as safe as it was before. These days, security cameras are actually required for businesses in my city but for SOHO (small office/home offices) an IP camera would be sufficient.

Now I've got to tell you, I'm not new to this because I've been a router and device technician for a multinational tech company a couple years back. I install cameras like these for a living so in a way, I know my way around it. IP Cameras in the past have a web based interface and you would need to specify the IP address and the port you assign on the device, you then have to manually encode that on your router's firewall so it could allow the connection to go through. Aside from that, you need to go to the setup page of the IP camera and connect it to the network as a separate device, much like connecting a separate laptop computer. This time with the 360 Mini Wireless Intercom IP Camera, you won't have to really do that anymore because you just need to follow the steps indicated inside the app.

After opening the box, it's time to install the app. I am on iOS so you just have to look for the 360 Smart Camera App on the App Store or use a QR code scanner if you have one on your phone. What I like about it is that it's a pretty small app to install.

After installing on your phone, you have to register and use your phone number. Then select a password for it.

In order to activate it, click on the SEND code button and wait for it on your phone. Input your code and finish the registration process, it should take you to the MyCameras list.

Click on the + sign on the top right hand corner of the app and it should ask you for your wifi password. 

It will get your connection tested, a few minutes would do.

Click on Connect to my Camera (if you are installing one) if you want a family member to connect to your camera, they would need to click the other one and use the QR Code you'll send them later.

It's pretty elementary, you just have to follow the prompts of the Green Light is Blinking. If it's not, just turn the device off and turn it back on.

It would ask you to name your camera, just keep it simple, you don't want to confuse people who want to connect to it too.

If you get this prompt, then you have successfuly connected the 360 Wireless IP Camera on your network. 

You may use your fingers to zoom in or out of the video. It's going to give you a 150 degree view of your home, I have covered some parts for security.

The camera can be viewed in different modes like Standard, HD and Ultra HD. I was impressed it only needed a few resources as far as bandwidth is concerned.

You will be prompted to update it if the current firmware of your device is not updated, so please do as it has some fixes.

You will get that 150 degree view if you choose to see it on the landscape mode, you can also set alerts if you want to only use it when someone moves, and you can also use an SD card if you want to record things. As far as video quality, it's pretty decent.

You can invite friends and family to view your camera by texting them, using a QT Code invite or through WeChat which is pretty common in China.

Turn this off if you don't want alerts to happen.

This only indicates 1 camera so far but I plan to purchase more so I could cover the whole house, we don't want to get in trouble do we!

There are also options to clear cache and  enable gesture passwords. If you want something like that.

I did a screenshot of my personal QR code and sent it to my siblings so they can view our home from anywhere in the world. What I like about this is that it's very inexpensive, easy to install, quite clear and you get to see the most precious people you need to see 24/7. Not to mention PEACE OF MIND... That to me is priceless!

This device is available in various online stores in the Philippines, so get them if you want to be able to take control of your house, call for help if the need arises. It should be this easy.
