Smart and PLDT Unveils New Logo + Eraserheads Reunion Concert

Tuesday, June 21, 2016

A surprise wasn't a surprise if some of us knew about it, they kept this in the wraps for a few weeks. I've been hearing different humors about what was going to happen on this day but all along, I thought it was just going to be another technological wonder that they have come up with because after all, they're Smart and PLDT. When they came up on stage I couldn't believe they would be starting to change something that's already iconic, the logo that they've been carrying for years. Yes ladies and gentlemen, you are looking at Smart Communications Incorporated and PLDT's new logos. Tons of media, influencers and celebrities were at the Makati Shangri-la to witness it and for me it was already a great night, but they had A LOT up their sleeves. They did a live announcement of it first on their Facebook Page and did it on the PLDT Building along Makati Avenue. Here's how it went down!

It was awesome! We were all in a festive mood after that. Change has come for the BIGGEST mobile network in the country. But they didn't really stop there. The lights were turned off, the stage became a little busier than usual, then I suddenly saw someone come up on stage. My JAW dropped. It was freaking Buddy Zabala.... then after a few seconds, Marcus, then after that, Raymund Marasigan, then my rock god Ely Buendia. I couldn't believe it, my super favorite band is right in front of me, after YEARS of not playing together... it was THE ERASERHEADS! I was about to pass out, while freaking out, and shouting my lungs out because they were there, in the flesh and they did this reunion just for us and SMART!

Now I promised my friends, I promised a lot of people that I wasn't going to be selfish so here's the concert on video. I uploaded this for two days so PLEASE don't complain why I'm singing in the background, because they are like Justin Bieber to the millenials LOL! Some tech bloggers were already looking at me like I'm crazy, I'm very sorry but you don't understand how BIG OF A DEAL this is for me so if you were a little bothered by how I was reacting while they were playing, again I'M SO SORRY!

Thank you so much to SMART for checking A TON on my bucket list. I am still in shock while I'm writing this article. Thank you to Smart and PLDT for making this happen! Congratulations on the new logo and I'm sure this is the start of so much more for the Filipino people!

Hmmm... where do I start.... well here goes...

I live in a quaint town in the metro called Kamuning. It's comprised mostly suburban and residential houses. The nearest Elementary School is owned by the government; and to tell you honestly its not that appealing to look at that time. I don't have any qualms against Tomas Morato but man even when I was a kid I didn't like going there. My Grandma taught English classes and had duties on the other nearby school. Well it wasn't nearby for a 5 year old kid and since I didn't want to end up on this one, they all decided that I had to be sent to Kamuning Elementary School. I then had lots of Tito's and Tita's... had lots of friends. I did dance troupes, choirs, the works! School made me creative more than I ever wanted. Even if my siblings went to private ones and I stayed there, I guess it did a lot for me. I saw how real people were at those times. I grew up barely knowing what I'm good at but it has equipped me with a lot of things... but what I cherish most was the friendship. It was the first time I encountered other kids than me who were not from the same neighborhood I was in. What's funny is that I'm analyzing my childhood ha-ha!Anyway to make the long story short, yesterday was the first time in 20 years that we got to meet again. The Batch 91 of Kamuning Elementary School and all its cohorts were as excited as I am. It was something I wanted to do since we were all just talking and posting on Facebook most of the time. Even if it was only a handful, I wanted it to start something big. I always dreamed of reconnecting with the past... Just imagining 20 years of stories and lives we had; it was bound to be as big as I thought.

I got an event posted on FB and of course the response was positive. I wasn't worried about the attendance, but anyway; as long as I see some of them I'm good. This is just the beginning and I'm sure once those who are outside of the country or were busy at that time would be envious after seeing the photos. Need I say more?!
I graduated there. Got to high school, college and a job... well a couple of jobs ha-ha! I guess it spelled the 20 years for me. When the day finally came I wanted to be at the venue first so I did my best but John Lloyd beat me to it! Haha! Then after a few short stories, Enclid, Abby and Julius arrived. Sherwin came through the rain. We waited a bit and got RC, Christine and Shiela too. I guess a bit of my dream to see them was comin true... =)

L-R Christine, Lloyd, Julius, Abby, Sherwin, Enclid
RC and Shiela (seated)

Pretty soon the place was filling up. We decided to start the party and got a few more guys and gals to arrive.

(Top) Shiela, Lloyd (L-R) Enclid, Lyn (Warner's wife ^_^), Warner, Rodel, Abby Sherwin, Christine, Gina, Freddie, Maryann, Jerome, Julius, Jon-Jon, RC and Me

We drank a few bottles and ate a few things but what kept us busy most of the time was the laughter and stories. I never imagined how petty and innocent we were back then. And oh how time flies! Some of us look quite the same and some of us look VERY different... but you can't discount one thing... we all still look good. I guess time has been good to us and in fact I wouldn't wanna say how old we are, after all we're all probably the same age haha! I was a little weird in some way because I practically could occupy 1/4 of the photos, I guess I was that big! I was already big when we were kids ^_^.

I did see my closest friends though I never got the chance to talk to them that much this time. I know there will still be more of these gatherings. I want to get to know them more. We've all lived different lives, chose different paths and had been doing a lot to reconnect. It was indeed an evening to remember. It was exactly as I hoped it would be as it made me happy... I hope it was the same for them!

Here's some of the highlights!

It was a fun day for all of us. I'd like to take this part of the post to thank each and everyone who attended this small gathering. I know I'm not much of a planner or organizer but we did have fun and that's what is important. For our classmates who weren't able to come, you saw how much fun we had on this reunion... so try and be there next time okay?! Again thanks to everyone who made this successful!

PS I think everyone got home late after a few rounds of beer in Tomas Morato. Until we meet again! Au Revoir!

Kamuning Elementary School Batch 1991 Reunion

Monday, June 21, 2010

*Here's a look back at us 20 years ago*

Hi Classmates! Hi Batchmates! =)

I'm not much of an organizer... but then again it has been ages when we last met (like 20 years!) so I would really want this to push through. I would like to propose a small gathering. Some of us all have something scheduled already so I'm setting this to next month, particularly August 7th... that is a Saturday. It won't be on your family day and it wouldn't be on your day for going out (use friday for that!).

I know most of us are out of the country (hence they won't be there) but some of us are still in QC or nearby places and that's what I want to have organized first. We'll probably be doing it on a restaurant, I don't know if lunch or dinner would be best so I would like to get some suggestions from you guys where we could do this. Lunch is favorable for Mommies and Dinner - evening would be best for us guys + 2 bottles of beer right (of course!)?!

So here's the thing, I would like you to have the whole August 7th reserved for anything that we would do as early as now. The venue will remain "to be announced". As for expenses for food and drinks, chipping in wouldn't be so bad...

I would also like to ask you guys to remain online and check your private messages from time to time... some of you gave me your contact numbers, I'll have you updated there too as much as I can. I hope in this busy lives we have; we can still find time to meet and catch up on stories. This is the time to reconnect with old friends so please reserve that Saturday for us. Get it?! Got it?! Good! =)

Making the Band Again!

Wednesday, March 18, 2009

I was in a band once in college and we did not get through the music industry that much because we only did it for fun and maybe there were only a couple of friends and band enthusiasts that took notice of us. I know how hard it is to get publicized in this industry because I have been there and done that.

We made amends with ourselves and accepted we could not continue anymore because we had our own lives too. We studied and all graduated in our own Engineering fields, now we have our own folks and families to take care of and we still reminisce what we might have been. Today the Internet has been a boundless medium for aspiring artists and music producers who would like to hear something different. I wonder if we tried one more time and got our act together again. If it happened now, would our dreams of getting the band and our music discovered become reality? It's a long shot I know but if you think about it, everybody deserves a second chance. Maybe someday if the Gods and Goddesses of Olympus allow it, they can let us try once again. There are interesting web sites I'll try out soon like YouMusic.com - Got Music? Find Fans! Love Music? Find Talent! They have Music Video and Audio Charts so everyone can see how you fare in the battle. Musicians can also get their Gig schedules, CD Releases, and services publicized because the connection is already there we just need to seize the opportunity and show the world our brand of music.

If this does not work, then maybe we all would realize that we would all have a happy feeling that we have not wasted out time but have done our best. Maybe get an act together and prove that second time is a charm right?!

I wish the band had a reunion too!

Chirs Brown is Recording?? (O_o)

Monday, March 02, 2009

A
ll along there were articles of remorse and thoughts of fixing things but the only thing he's worried about today is recording. Yes ladies and gentlemen, he's not dealing with court lawyers at this time because he's making songs... and lots of it. As if he's getting people to buy it. Oh come on!

He's also on a jet ski diet as he is being seen a couple of times already outside P. Diddy's mansion. He however is not seen with Rihanna but according to news articles he is trying to patch up things with Rihanna. As with people that know what will eventually happen in the future, I fear for Rihanna's life. I'm sure he's going to have to do more than that and get major jailtime to convince me, following their Grammys eve blowup I'm sure he's thinking he's going to get away with it and possibly avoid the lawsuits coming his way.

Chris Brown was seen recording late at night at Miami's famed Hit Factory studio. There has been no sighting of Rihanna at any of the sessions.

The Chris Brown and Rihanna Reunion

Free Pictures | acobox.com

I like many of you am outraged about this supposed reunion of Chris Brown and RIHANNA. This was rumored to happen in Sean "P. DIDDY" Combs island mansion in Miami Beach, Florida. It is so huge that you could not see that much inside the property even if you had hovering helicopters or the most powerful paparazzi lenses in the world to get those free pictures.

I would be disappointed if this would just go to them making up and not have someone get jail time because obviously RIHANNA had a better beating than Chris Brown. If you were hit in the face and mouth that hard and you still choose to stay with that kind of man (thinking he's just a boyfriend right?) then you must be sick also. But of course if this is not true, Chris Brown must me doing a lot of negative publicity to tarnish the reputation of RIHANNA. She must then do something about it not just for her but the rest of the women around the world that fall victim to domestic violence. A simple sorry wouldn't cure the wounds he may have inflicted. This is definitely more skin deep.

Would you still consider going back with the man after he did this to you?

My Wish Came True, How about you?!

Wednesday, December 24, 2008

I had my wish granted, how about you?!

It's the most wonderful time of the year. Christmas here in my homeland spells gift giving, midnight dinners that are incomparable to any place in the world. It’s always a big event when this day comes and people expect only good things to happen as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

I'm a simple guy with simple dreams. I know I ask for some things that are expensive and sometimes preposterous compared to common Filipinos. You know how it is in the Philippines, they just give what they can because they imply the rule "it's the thought that counts!” A few days ago, my friend Kathryn sent me a text message asking for advice what restaurant we should go to. We meet once a year to check on what's happening with our friends and enjoy each other's company. I recommended a restaurant named Something Fishy, in Eastwood City so it would be quite near at my office since I did have work that evening. Everyone agreed to meet at that place at 6 PM but knowing everybody we would probably be meeting at around 7:30 PM which I placed a reservation for. I was right because they arrived around that time and some of them were running late too.

I didn't know they had dinner buffet at that place so we did eat a lot considering I was on a diet. I was happy to meet RV my best friend and Lisa my twin. RV was a hunk in college and a class A womanizer of sorts, but I was able to cope with his attitude because I was the good boy as everybody knows. Lisa on the other hand was my twin, which I really admired because we almost have the same IQ level and same birthday at that. Hence, we are really twins though I am a little older because I was born morning and she was born in the afternoon. I was only teasing them when we were in college; only to find out I was already expecting a godson from them when we were almost graduating. Kathryn was also there, she was pretty with all her Jennifer Lopez inspired attire. Her ex-boyfriend Dexter came in with Roger and his wife to be. Dexter is from T.R.A.N.S.C.O. the transmission lines company, so think about how long he had to travel from the north which probably took 8 hours to get there. It was normal for him though because he does usually go to Manila. Roger on the other hand was working for a Telecommunications Company, he and his wife to be is going to get married sometime June or July this year. I wish them all the best because as far as I know Roger did not even have a girlfriend when we were in college. Now he's getting married and I am definitely happy for him.

Later that evening, Edwin and his wife arrived and chewed down with us. He's already got 3 daughters I think which I really forgot to give gifts too. I was really impressed as they were both in clad gold that time like they were already shining. It was nice seeing him joke around again, as long as I was not the topic I was really fine with that. Rummy went to the dinner together with her husband Dexter, he's another Dexter. I never got to see her since we parted ways in college. So that's like 8 years I think so I kind of liked the fact that I get to see people that I haven't met in a long time. That was a record I think, but I would probably have to wait until I get to meet my high school friends and buddies too. I never had my wife around with me that time because she had her own places and relatives to go to. It's sad because I feel like when we meet like that and everyone has a partner around, I realize that I am still single. Not that I am in a hurry but I would probably get married sometime soon and that's going to be another story.

University of the East Engineering friends meets again @ Eastwood City

If I would have the chance to sit on Santa's lap and got a wish, it would be to see my friends. In this day and age I could have asked for material things knowing how capricious I am. The feeling I got when we met was more than what I could ever wish for. If someone were to ask me what I would like to have for Christmas, I already had it. The time with my friends was incomparable. These are little things that we should always be thankful for. If you want to make a wish and have it granted, you should check out http://www.sitonsantaslap.com/?utm_source=b and get to sit on Santa's lap like when you were a kid. I even had the chance to be included in his story with my memorable pictures of our dinner in C.E.I.V.A. Digital Photo Frames. C.E.I.V.A. is the inventor of the digital photo frames so you only get the best unlike cheap imitations out in the market. Make sure you enter the optional sweepstakes if you are 18 years old and a resident of the United States and/or Washington D.C.

Merry Christmas to you and your family!

I met my UE Caloocan Engineering Buds! ^_^

Monday, December 22, 2008

UE Caloocan... the times we reminisced...

I just got in the office after a short dinner and chit chat with my college friends... Man it was amazing to see their faces again... the stories were just never ending.

I hate the fact that we only meet once a year, but you know what?! it's kinda fine that we get to miss each other for once. One thing though, we all are happy... we ate a lot at Something Fishy... and drank a couple of rounds at Seafood Island... I got the chance to see people that I haven't seen since 2000 would you believe? It was nice, the company was reaaaaaly great... I just wish we do this often... well you know how busy we are... with work, and family too... I just miss them all I guess.. ^_^

I'll get a post scribbled once I get em pictures... I promised them I'd write one heheh... Man this is a nice Christmas... ^_^
